Zinder

Unemployed youths are swelling the ranks of gangs sowing violence in the sahelian city of Zinder, Niger, known as the "Palais“ (Palaces). The majority are the children of lepers, unregistered and deprived of their right to an education. A ticking time bomb youth. Some lead a life of crime and end up in jail. Others use their street-smarts and their despondency to survive, like smuggling gaz at the border with Nigeria or getting organized to set up more regular business. As a daughter of Zinder, Aicha Macky has been invited into the daily lives of active and former members of the "Palais".
